Puri: The Puri King Dibyasingha Deb has welcomed all developmental projects announced for Puri & Jagannath Temple by the Odisha government. However, he has urged the State government to carry out development works keeping in mind the religious, spiritual & cultural traditions and customs of the holy town.

The State government on Thursday had announced to spend Rs 500 crore on infrastructure development of the heritage town. A decision regarding this was taken at a high-level review meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Lok Seva Bhawan.

The infrastructural development will primarily focus on construction of new roads, bridges and parking lots in the pilgrim city.

Moreover, the Odisha government is undertaking a massive eviction drive around Jagannath Temple and Puri Sea beach as a part of its vision to develop Puri further into a world class heritage city.

The Puri district administration began eviction of all unauthorised structures adjacent to the ‘Meghnad Pacheri’ of the Puri Srimandir on Monday. After undertaking a massive eviction drive around Shree Jagannath Temple, the Puri district administration cleared encroachments which had come up on government land near sea beach in Baliapanda area today.
