Puri: Pipili police on Monday recovered Rs 50 lakh unaccounted cash from a two-wheeler at Tarakaj Square in the applique town during a routine checking.

Two youths riding the bike were detained by the police in connection with the seizure of the cash.

As per the initial reports, the youths hailing from Balanga area in Puri were riding a Pulsar motorcycle when the police tried to intercept them during a routine checking. However, they did not stop and sped up the bike.

The police team then chased down them at Tarakaj Square.

While the exact sources of the cash and where they were being taken have not been ascertained yet, the police are questioning the youths to get an insight into it.

It is pertinent to mention here that, the by-election to Pipili Assembly seat that fell vacant after the death of MLA Pradeep Maharathy, will be held on April 17, 2021.
