Bhubaneswar: The Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar issued notice to producer Sitaram Agarwal on Tuesday in connection with the controversy over a poster of the movie ‘Mr Kanhaiya’ which recently went viral on social media.

Sources said the Commissionerate Police will try to elicit information from the producer regarding the poster including under what circumstances such a poster was prepared and whether it is the official poster of the film or not.

If needed, notices will be served to actor Papu Pom Pom and other actresses of the movie who are seen in the poster, sources added.

Earlier, social activist Linkan Subudhi had filed a written complaint at Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar demanding action against the actor, producer & director of the movie alleging that the poster portrayed women in negative light.

In the poster, Papu is seen holding multiple girls on leash with a rope tied to their necks. Though Papu in a video had clarified that it was not his concept nor it was the official poster, it sparked widespread public outcry with cine critics as well sprinter Dutee Chand alleging sheer disrespect to women in the poster.

Newly-appointed Chairperson of the State Commission for Women, Minati Behera today condemned the incident and urged police to take immediate and appropriate action against the guilty.

Meanwhile, the producer of ‘Mr Kanhaiya’ film, Sitaram Agarwal could not be contacted for his comments on the issue.
