Bhubaneswar: Former MP Baijayant Panda has congratulated people of Odisha after the State government on Saturday decided to set up a riverine port on Mahanadi River at Akhadasali village under Mahakalpada block of Kendrapara district.

He stated the decision is a win for people of the State.

On February 26, 2014, Panda had met the then Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra and the Commerce and Transport Secretary and the Central Planning Commission member for establishment of the riverine port on public-private partnership (PPP).

Similarly, Panda had called on chief secretary AP Padhi and the then Commerce and Transport Commissioner and the chief engineer of the Works department on February 19, 2016 to discuss the project. Padhi had assured him of an early start of the project, the former MP said in a press release.

Earlier in the day, Jay Panda visited ailing Karunanidhi at a hospital in Chennai and wished him a speedy recovery.
