Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) today served notices to 34 servitors in connection with the delay in conduct of rituals at Puri Srimandir last month following cease work strike by a group of servitors over an alleged police assault on one of their co-workers.

In the notice, Chief Administrator of SJTA Pradipta Mohapatra has directed the concerned servitors to submit their reply in connection with the matter within seven days.

Earlier, on December 27 2018, a servitor Bhawani Shankar Mohapatra of Bhitarichha servitor group had alleged that he was misbehaved and manhandled by police over entry of two persons into the temple.

The incident snowballed into a controversy after some groups of servitors at the 12th century shrine resorted to cease work over the incident. Due to a face-off between servitor groups and police, the temple was shut down for over 14 hours leaving the devotees stranded outside. The incident had triggered widespread outcry in the state.
