Sonepur: A retired revenue inspector (RI) and a revenue supervisor were arrested by the Vigilance sleuths on charges of taking Rs 10,000 bribe from a person in Sonepur district.

The accused duo has been identified as Nagendra Mahakud, revenue supervisor of Birmaharajpur tehsil and Babaji Charan Sahu, former RI of Subalaya.

According to sources, the duo had demanded the bribe from one Thabir Meher of Tikirapada for issuing documents regarding transfer of ownership of land.

"As Thabir Meher is the only legal heir, he had gone to Birmaharajpur tehsildar and furnished an affidavit and other documents to transfer of 8.752 acres of land of his father in his name. However, the revenue supervisor asked him to approach Babaji Charan Sahu who had already retired from service on June 30, 2020," said Dasarathi Sethy, DSP of Sambalpur vigilance division.

"Babaji Charan Sahu had demanded Rs 10,000 from Thabir following which he had lodged a complaint with us. We nabbed Babaji Charan when he was receiving the bribe and arrested him. Later, the revenue supervisor was also arrested," the vigilance DSP added.

In a related development, a team of officials from Sambalpur vigilance division on Friday conducted raid on a godown in Ulunda police limits in Sonepur district following allegations of illegal kerosene and diesel trade.

Barrels containing huge quantity of kerosene and diesel were seized from the godown.

According to sources, the kerosene and diesel were stolen from tankers plying on the road. Further investigation is underway to find out the roots of the illegal activities.
