Bhubaneswar: Former senior IAS officer Priyabrata Patnaik passed away on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mumbai. He was 67.

The 1976-batch IAS officer was battling against cancer and was undergoing treatment at the private hospital since last 40 days.

He breathed his last at 7.30 am, informed his relative Sidharth Mohanty, adding that, efforts are being made to bring his mortal remains to Odisha.

Patnaik was survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. While his wife works as a faculty member at BJB autonomous college, his elder son and daughter live in the US. His younger son is a student.

The 1976-batch IAS officer had served the State in various capacities. In the rank of chief secretary, he also had a stint as the CMD of Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco).He played a key role in bringing industrial revolution while working with Idco.

He was also the president of Odisha Judo Association.

Expressing grief over the untimely demise of the senior bureaucrat, Arabinda Behera, former IAS officer said, “Priyabrata Patnaik’s death is very saddening. He was a popular face among Odisha IAS cadre officers. His unique and different approach towards his work made him popular among people when he worked as collector in many districts. His absence will be felt.”

National Vice President of BJP, Baijayant Jay Panda condoled the death of the senior bureaucrat.
