Kandhamal: A day after a class-VIII girl delivered a baby at a residential school in Kandhamal stoking a massive controversy, the infant died at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur today. As per reports, both the minor girl and the newborn were admitted to the hospital yesterday.

Earlier in the day the headmistress of the school was suspended. The District Collector had written a letter to the Odisha government yesterday recommending action against the headmistress Radharani Dalai and had directed the sub-collector to conduct a probe and submit a report within 10 days.

While three Assistant Superintendents were suspended, 1 health worker(ANM) and 2 matrons were dismissed yesterday.

On the other hand, a team of Odisha Congress under the leadership of former MLA and State Executive leader Ajayanti Pradhan visited Daringbadi on Sunday night and enquired about the incident.

The team consisting of president of Congress farmers’ wing, Amiya Pattnaik, MLA of G. Udayagiri Jacob Pradhan and former MP Nakul Nayak visited the girls' hostel of the residential school.

The team also visited the Dariginbadi police station and held talks with the concerned officials to know about the proceedings of the investigation into the incident.

“The incident is very shameful and unfortunate. The persons involved in the case should be arrested and stringent action should be taken against them as suspension is not a punishment in my opinion,” MLA of G. Udayagiri, Jacob Pradhan said.

Pradhan further demanded the resignation of the minister of the concerned department.

On Sunday, SC and ST Development Minister Ramesh Majhi had ordered Kandhamal Collector to conduct a probe and submit a report at the earliest.

After the news of the minor girl delivering a baby came to light , tension ran high in Daringbadi area yesterday.
