Some locals spotted the elephant calf struggling to get out of the well in the morning today and alerted the forest department. Subsequently, a team of forest officials rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. A JCB machine was also engaged in the work to dig a path to help the trapped animal.

Locals said that the baby elephant might have come out of the nearby forest yesterday night and while venturing in the field in search of food, it might have accidentally fell into the well.

After nearly two to three hours of rescue operation, the forest officials finally managed to get the elephant out of the well, said reports.

Though the health condition of the elephant is stated to be stable, the calf has received multiple injuries on its body while it slipped into the well. The animal is being treated by a team of veterinary doctors, said a forest official.
