Bhubaneswar: Renowned social activist and labour leader Lalit Nayak passed away while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Monday morning, sources from his family said.

Nayak was suffering from bone cancer since the last six months and admitted to the AIIMS for treatment. However, he breathed his last at 5.30 am in the morning today, said reports.

He was also infected with Covid-19 earlier and had recovered, added reports.

He was associated with around 50 social organisations. Nayak was also the president of several unions including Western Odisha Shramik Sangha, Electric Employees Association and Auto-Rickshaw Association in Bolangir district. He also played a major role in blood donation campaigns in the district.

Meanwhile, a pal of gloom has descended in Bolangir district following Nayak’s death. His mortal remains will be brought to Bolangir for the last rites.
