Bhubaneswar: Renowned economist and educationist Professor Baidyanath Mishra breathed his last at his residence in Saheed Nagar, Bhubaneswar today. He was 99.

Mishra was known as an educationist, researcher and economist, who contributed immensely for social development in Odisha. In 1949, Mishra had started his career as a lecturer from Ravenshaw University and later worked at Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT) as Agriculture Economics Professor. Between 1981 to 1985, Mishra served as vice-chancellor at OUAT. Later, from 1985 to 1990, he worked at State Planning Board as Chairman.

Following Mishra's demise, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, BJP national vice president Baijayant Jay Panda and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan offered their condolences.

“Deeply saddened by the demise of eminent educationist and economist, Baidyanath Mishra. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May his soul rest in peace,” tweeted CM Naveen.

Expressing grief over the death of Mishra, Pradhan tweeted: "His contribution to the social development in Odisha is incomparable. I express my condolences to the family. May his soul rest in peace."

Jay Panda also condoled the death of Mishra in a tweet message.
