‘Red Flag’ Tag For Sambalpur Gang Rape Case, Cops To File Chargesheet Within 20 Days

Sambalpur: A day after a married woman was allegedly gang-raped by four persons in Sambalpur, Odisha police on Monday decided to treat it as ‘Red Flag’ case.

Addressing a presser, Sambalpur SP Kanwar Vishal Singh informed that already four accused have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape case which will be treated as a ‘Red Flag’ case by Police headquarters. Moreover, the charge sheet of the case will be filed within 20 days in court.

The accused have been identified as Shib Shankar Naik (25), Dolamani Bhue (30), Mahesh Sethi (24) and Akrura Chhuria (22). All the accused hail from Ainthapali and a motorcycle has been recovered from their possession.

“A lady DSP rank officer is investigating the case and based on the evidences and statement of the survivor, four accused have been arrested. They will be produced before the court today after medical examination,” said Singh.

A special public prosecutor will be engaged and we will try for a speedy trial of the case, added Singh.

Meanwhile, the rape-survivor has been admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla for treatment and her health condition is stated to be stable.

According to reports, two youths had allegedly abducted the woman by offering her lift. The duo then took her to an isolated place and raped her.

Later, two others joined them and raped the woman by confining her at a place near the National Highway.
