Bhubaneswar: An additional DCP rank officer is heading the probe into the recovery of beheaded body of a woman near Dasapur area on Bharatpur-Chandaka road on Thursday.

Besides, the additional DCP rank officer is assisted by five senior officers, informed Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Umashankar Dash on Friday.

"The body was found at a secluded place, so it is quite difficult for the police to get any eye witnesses," Dash said.

Urging the public to share her information with police, Dash said, "We have already circulated her approximate age, height and other information to all the police stations in the State. The posters of her belongings with details will be put up in all the nearby slums. We are hopeful that people will come up with her information soon."

Not only in Odisha, but the police have sent her details to the neighbouring states as well, informed Dash.

Refusing to divulge further details in the case, Dash said, "Though the preliminary investigation does not hint towards rape before the murder, the police are investigating the case from all aspects. We cannot reveal details now as it may hamper our probe."

"It is obvious that the criminals beheaded her to conceal her identity from the police. But we will surely nab the criminals," Dash added.

Earlier on Thursday, the locals of Dasapur were taken for a shock after an unidentified woman’s headless body was found in their area. It was suspected that someone might have beheaded the woman before dumping her headless torso in the area.
