Bhubaneswar: Kuakhia police of Jajpur district on Friday seized the mobile phone and clothes worn by Rakesh Swain on the fateful day of the mysterious death of his female friend and Rama Devi Women’s University student Jharaphula Nayak.

The cops have intensified probe to trace out vital evidence from the seized articles in connection with the case.

The development comes close on the heels of the recovery of a scooter allegedly used for carrying the body of the victim from Bhubaneswar to Jajpur.

Police had reportedly recovered the scooter from Sundarpada area in Bhubaneswar. The two-wheeler was allegedly used by the accused and his associate to carry the girl’s body to Jajpur where they dumped it.

According to the police sources, the articles were seized based on the facts obtained from Swain’s interrogation and they will be sent to the forensic department. The three day remand of the accused has been finished and Kuakhia police will produce him in the court today.

Earlier on February 3, the Jajpur police had brought the accused Swain to Bhubaneswar for further investigation into the case.

The special team of Kuakhia police along with Jajpur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) had taken the accused to a guest house in Dharma Vihar area.

The police team had recreated the crime scene in room No.201 of the guest house to get a clear picture of sequence of events on the fateful day.

Rakesh and Jharaphula had checked in the guest house on January 26, a day before the body of Jharaphula was found dumped in Kuakhia area.
