Ravenshaw University students make film on Baji Rout

Cuttack:  A group of students of Ravenshaw University have come up with ‘Baji Rout India’s  Youngest Freedom Fighter’, a short film on the courage and valour of Baji Rout, a martyr in the history of India’s freedom struggle.

The British forces had gunned down Baji Rout, who was born in Dhenkanal district, after he had refused to ferry them across the Brahmani on October 11, 1938.

“The film is based on the life of Baji Rout and his contribution towards the freedom movement. The short film in Hindi carries glimpses of Indian freedom struggle like Praja Mandal Movement of 1937 and Salt Satyagraha as well. We expect the film to touch hearts of people,” said Riyan Farooq, director of the film.

Baji Rout was an unsung hero and never received due recognition as compared to other freedom fighters.

Sources said that the film was launched on Youtube last week and so far it got over 4k views.

“It took nearly a month to complete the shooting for the film. The scenes have been shot along the banks of the River Mahanadi,” informed Paresh Kumar Mulia, an actor in the film.

Mulia further expressed hope that the film will be liked by people across India.
