Rape victim ends life after video goes viral

Nabarangpur: A minor girl, who was allegedly raped, committed suicide today under Jharigan police limits of Nabarangpur district after the video of the incident was made viral by the accused.

The minor girl ended her life by hanging herself from a tree, said sources. While a complaint was filed at the police station by the family members of the victim, the accused is still absconding, added sources.

Grandmother of the victim said, "My granddaughter was raped by Jagannath Goud after she refused advances made by the accused. Goud recorded the whole incident. Out of shame, my granddaughter committed suicide. We want death sentence for the accused."

Denying any relationship between his daughter and the accused, father of the victim, Sira Santa, said, "We are not aware of any relationship between them. We wanted to nab the accused, but he fled the spot after committing the crime.”

In another incident, an obscene video of a newly-wed tribal woman was made viral and sent to her husband in Jeypore, Koraput.

Reportedly, the video was also sent to the family members of the woman, following which a complaint was lodged at the Sadar Police Station.

Subsequently, a case has been registered against the youth. Police have initiated a probe into the incident and launched a manhunt to nab the suspect, informed sources.
