Bhubaneswar: Odisha, which has been battered by heavy rainfall on account of four back-to-back low pressure formations over the Bay of Bengal this month, is all set to experience more rain till next week.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued fresh warning for heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha. As per the IMD, the well-marked low pressure area moved westward and now lay centred over central parts of east Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood. A fresh low pressure is likely to develop over north-west Bay of Bengal around August 23.

Due to steep pressure gradient, strong surface wind reaching 40 to 50 kmph likely to prevail over north Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha coast. HR Biswas, Director of Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre, today informed that under the influence of the fresh low pressure, the rainfall activity in Odisha will increase from August 23 night.

Several parts of north and south-interior Odisha have already experienced light to moderate rainfall in the past 24 hours. Kosagumuda in Nabarangpur district has received 126.2 mm of rainfall, Padia (Malkangiri) 112.3 and Hirakud (Sambalpur) 101.8 mm in the last 24 hours.
