Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted that rain and thunderstorm activities will continue in different parts of Odisha till this weekend.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore and Kendrapara in the next 24 hours.

Apart from this, IMD has also issued Yellow Warning for thunderstorm with lightning for five districts- Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Khordha and Nayagarh. People in these districts have been advised to remain alert as gusty surface wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph is likely to prevail during thunderstorm.

“A trough runs from Odisha to North Interior Karnataka with an embedded cyclonic circulation over south Odisha & neighbourhood that extends upto 1.5 km above mean sea level. The east-west trough at mean sea level from East Uttar Pradesh to Mizoram has become less marked,”said IMD in its bulletin.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak and at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Jagatsinghpur.

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak and at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Kandhamal, Koraput.
