Bhubaneswar: The New Year celebration across Odisha is likely to be marred by rainfall as the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar today predicted light rainfall between January 1 and 3 across several parts of the State.

Duty Officer of Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre, PK Nath informed that the entire State will witness dry weather, however, light rainfall accompanied by lightning is likely to occur in some places of Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Keonjhar districts on January 1.

Likewise, light rainfall accompanied by lightning likely to hit the northern and southern regions of the State on January 2. The coastal and interior parts of the State will also witness the same on January 3, Nath added.

The night temperature may increase by 2 to 3 degrees celsius between January 1 and 3 due to the rainfall.

Nath further said that a yellow warning has been issued for Sundergarh, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Keonjhar, Khurda and Mayurbhanj districts as thunderstorm and hailstorm likely to occur over these districts on January 3 and 4.

The weatherman also predicted that coastal Odisha along with some places of Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Gajapati districts will witness light rainfall and hailstorm on January 4.

The cold wave conditions will return after January 4, informed the Duty Officer.

Meanwhile, Angul became the coldest place of the State on Tuesday with a temperature of 5 degree Celsius followed by Sonepur(5.6), Daringbadi (6), Keonjhar (6.2), Phulbani (6.5), Titlagarh (8), Talcher (8.6), Sambalpur (8.6), Sundergarh (9), Cuttack (9), Balasore (9.4) and Bhubaneswar (9.8) degree Celsius.
