Boudh/Bolangir: Heavy rain accompanied by hailstones threw normal life out of gear in several parts across Odisha on Friday. One person was killed while three others were injured in separate rain-related mishaps in Boudh and Bolangir districts.

As per reports, two persons were trapped after a bamboo bush reportedly got uprooted and fell on them at Loisingha area in thunderstorm which lashed the district in the afternoon today. Later, one of them died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Two other persons were also injured after a tree fell on a house at Bishalpali village. All the injured have been admitted to hospital and their condition is stated to be critical.

Apart from Bolangir, rain and hailstones also wreaked havoc in Boudh district. Though the thunderstorm brought the temperature down, it caused massive destruction to standing crops in the region.

Several temporary kiosks and kutcha houses were damaged by the hailstones that lashed the area for over 15 to 20 minutes today.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued thunderstorm and lightning alert for several parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.

Yellow warning has also been issued for coastal, north interior and south interior Odisha as light to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorm is likely to occur in the next 28 hours.
