Nayagarh: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday inaugurated the railway line between Nayagarh Town and Mahipur Railway Station as part of the ongoing Khurda Road-Bolangir rail project. Besides, the Khurda- Nayagarh - Khurda passenger train was also flagged off to Mahipur on the occasion.

The 12 km line from Nayagarh town to Mahipur Railway Station is part of the on-going 289 km Khurda Road-Bolangir Rail line project. The trail run on the said route was conducted in the month of July.

Speaking on the occasion, Dharmendra Pradhan said that earlier, a section till Bolgarh station was inaugurated prior to Nabakalebar festival.

“Rs 150 crore has been spent on the 12km line from Nayagarh town till Mahipur. We have asked railway officials to ensure that the project is extended till Daspalla by March 2022 and Bolangir by December 2023,” said Pradhan.

Pradhan further urged Odisha government to speed up process of land acquisition, forest and environment clearances for the project so that subsequent works can be taken up by the Centre.

“Khurda-Bolangir railway line can play a crucial role in formation of New Odisha. People can cover a distance of 300 km from Bhubaneswar to Bolangir in the superfast train in 3 hours," said Pradhan.

Odisha minister Arun Sahoo said, “Centre has extended its support to provide rail connectivity to the areas which were earlier deprived. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik too had assured Centre of providing necessary support in execution of railway projects in the State. When both the Centre and State work together, the pace of development is faster.”
