Kendrapara: Eagerly awaiting rail connectivity in the area, people of Kendrapara today witnessed the first-ever and successful trial run of a rail engine on the Haridaspur-Kendrapara route.

A pilot engine left Haridaspur station at 9 am and was run till Bajapur in presence of railway officials in order to check the rail line and the overhead election transmission.

Reportedly, this is the first railway project in Kendrapara district, the completion of which will pave way for rapid industrialisation and creation of vast employment opportunities in the area.

It was actually former Kendrapara MP Jay Panda who toiled for this Haridaspur-Paradip railway project and held numerous discussions with the Central ministers about the progress of the same.

Responding to a tweep, Panda said, "Indeed a delightful sight! When I represented Kendrapara in Parlmt, it was my proud privilege to have had many dozens of meetings at all levels, in the field & in Bhubaneswar & Delhi to push the project thru, from starting construction to resolving land & many other bottlenecks."

Notably, the Haridaspur-Paradip railway project was commissioned in 1995 but work did not start due to lack of political will. After Baijayant Panda was elected to the Parliament in 2009, he remained in constant touch with the ministers of Centre as well as the State government to ensure that the project is expedited.
