Koraput: Ahead of the 72nd Republic Day celebrations on Tuesday, elaborate arrangements have been made by the district Police to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations and prevent any untoward incident.

In view of intelligence warning about a possible Naxal strike, security has been heightened across the borders with intensive patrolling by security forces and sealing of borders with neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, sources said.

Taking stock of the arrangements for the R-Day celebrations, Koraput Additional SP Utkal Ranjan Dash stated that special care has been taken to meet security threat from the left wing extremists.

Keeping in mind the prevailing Covid-19 situation, the district police has said no to large gatherings and the participation of school children and college students in any of the events.
Minister of Skill & Development & Technical Education Department, Premananda Nayak will hoist the Tricolour at the district Republic Day celebrations.

"Security has been tightened in the border areas. All the borders have been sealed. All security camps and police stations have been alerted to keep a 24X7 vigil and ensure the security in the bordering areas. The police personnel have been asked to intensify checking of vehicles.

Patrolling by police has also been intensified. As far as the events are concerned, mandatory Covid protocols would be followed," said the Additional SP after reviewing the security arrangements.

Elaborate security arrangements are also in place in other southern Odisha districts dominated by the red rebels, sources said.
