Bhubaneswar: In what could play a crucial role in boosting tourism sector of Odisha, the golden beach of Puri has received the ‘Blue Flag’ certification, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced through his Twitter handle on Sunday.

In a tweet, Patnaik wrote, “The Golden Beach of Puri has received coveted Blue Flag certification by FEE Denmark by conforming to the stringent environmental norm and ensuring world class sustainable tourist amenities. The renowned eco-label will add to the charm of the World Heritage City.”

Puri Collector, Balwant Singh today congratulated people of Puri and other officials who played a crucial role in maintaining proper sanitation through Mo Beach and other intensive campaigns in the past.

Earlier, the Centre had also recommended the Golden Beach in Puri to the International Jury of Denmark for the coveted global eco-label ‘Blue Flag’ certification in forthcoming tourist season under the Beach Environment and Aesthetic Management System (BEAMS) program.

The Golden Beach was among the eight beaches in India which have been nominated by the Centre for the Blue Flag tag.
