Bhubaneswar: The Saheed Nagar Police today seized 130-gram brown sugar worth around Rs 13 lakh and arrested two persons in this connection in the Capital city.

As per sources, acting on a tip-off, the police on Wednesday conducted a raid and nabbed two drug peddlers while they were planning to sell the contraband item in Bhubaneswar.

"Two persons from Puri district, Nikunja Jagdev and Dhirendra Jaysingh, today nabbed by our special task team and Saheed Nagar police while they were trying to sell brown sugar in Bhubaneswar region," informed Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Das.

The cops seized 130-gram brown sugar from their possession, he added.

It is worth mentioning that teenagers, especially students are now actively involved in the illegal narcotics trade in the State. Recently, an MBA student was arrested by the Crime Branch STF from Balasore and seized 1.325 kgs of brown sugar worth nearly Rs 1.30 crore from his possession.

This apart, police-mafia link has also come to fore recently following the suspension of Dhaneswar Sahu, Inspector-In-Charge of Jaleswar Police Station for allegedly threatening the brother of a drugs peddler for money.
