Puri: In what seems to be a malafide motive to defame a police official, the woman who had accused Balanga Police station Assistant Sub-Inspector Chittaranjan Das of raping her, decided to stay mute when her statement was recorded before the Magistrate under Section 164.

Speaking to media persons, Puri SP Umashankar Dash on Saturday informed that the complainant did not mention anything about sexual assault in her statement recorded in presence of the Magistrate. Dash further said that she even refused to undergo medical test yesterday.

Meanwhile, questions were raised whether the woman had falsely implicated the ASI of sexual assault or she was pressurised by someone to resign from the case.

When the woman complainant was contacted, she said, "Puri SP's statement that there was no mention of rape in the statement recorded under section 164, is false. I was raped. I only refused to undergo medical examination."

In another development, the Balanga Police Station ASI who was arrested by Pipili Police yesterday based on an FIR lodged by the 30-year-old married woman has been suspended, informed Puri Additional SP Arun Kumar Jena.

"There are discrepancies between the complaint lodged and the facts. Based on the preliminary investigations, the accused ASI has been suspended," said SP Umashankar Das later in the day.

As per reports, the woman complainant had earlier met Pipili SDPO seeking action against the ASI. The woman in her complaint claimed that she along with her husband had approached Chittaranjan some six months back over a family dispute. During the course of the investigation, her husband was reportedly arrested and sent to jail. Three months later, the ASI called her to his quarters on the pretext of resolving the matter and raped her, the woman had alleged, adding that he even threatened to put her behind the bars if she reveals it to anyone.

ASI Chittaranjan, on the other hand, has pleaded innocence. “It is a conspiracy against me as I had arrested her husband earlier,” he claimed.
