Bhubaneswar/Puri: Amidst demands from several quarters to open the ‘Ratna Bhandar’, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today said that the treasure trove of Lord Jagannath and his siblings at Puri Srimandir should be opened.

"As a devotee of Lord Jagannath, we are waiting for the day when the Ratna Bhandar will be opened," said Pradhan adding that it needs to be opened.

On Srimandir beautification project, Pradhan said, "With time, the picture of Puri is also changing. Beautification of the Puri Srimandir is everybody's responsibility and its needs support of everyone. I wish everything will be completed in a proper and peaceful manner."

Earlier, senior daitapati servitor, Binayak Dasmohapatra had said that the Ratna Bhandar should be opened and all the valuables must be tallied with the previous inspection report as it is the right of every devotee to know about the treasure of the Lord.

Besides, Supreme Court had passed directions asking the temple management to place on record details of the valuables inside the inventory. The next hearing on the matter is on January 8, 2020.
