Puri: Taking serious note of the untimely Rath Yatra conducted by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Mumbai recently, the Puri Srimandir Administration on Sunday warned to take legal action against ISKCON if it continues to conduct the untimely car festival.

According to reports, a meeting regarding the issue was held at the office of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration(SJTA) in Puri on Sunday. Members of the SJTA, Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee members, Jagannath culture experts and its preachers, Srimandir servitors and some selected intellectuals were part of the meeting.

The Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath should be organised across the world only during the Hindu month of Asadha as per Skanda Purana and other religious scriptures, demanded the attendees.

In the meeting, it was decided to write to Gajapati Maharaj Dibyasingha Deb and then apprise the State government about the mater.

This apart, the SJTA will submit a memorandum to ISKCON asking it to not conduct the annual Rath Yatra on a different date. However, it has also decided to take legal action against ISKCON if it does not follow the memorandum.

Researcher Naresh Dash said, “The untimely Rath Yatra organised by ISKCON has hurt the sentiments of crores of Hindus. Therefore, a decision has been taken to make ISKCON aware about culture of the Lord Jagannath so that they follow it without any changes.”

“A report based on the culture of Lord Jagannath will be prepared and make them aware about it. If needed, a meeting will be organised with them,” informed Sachidananda Das Maharaj, Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee member.

ISKCON’s untimely Rath Yatra conducted in Mumbai on January 30 triggered resentment among Srimandir servitors, religious scholars, Jagannath devotees and researchers in Odisha.
