Ramakanta Biswas

Puri: Gajapati Maharaj Dibyasingha Deb on Sunday sought the cooperation of Jagannath devotees across the globe to transform the pilgrim city into the best spiritual and religion place for Santatan Vedic region in the world.

Addressing the global Odia community through video conferencing, the king stressed for united efforts both by Centre and the State government for development of the Jagannath Dham. Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also joined the king to address the session.

“Various developmental schemes for Shreekhetra have been launched which will take 2-3 years to complete. It will only become possible if both the Centre and State governments take the programmes forward. The cooperation of devotees of Lord Jagannath across the world is utmost necessary. If we unite all, we can transform our Shreekhetra Purusottam Dham Puri into the best spiritual and religion place for Santatan Vedic region in the world,” said Gajapati.

Odia people from more than 30 countries across the world like America, Sweden, Japan, Myanmar, China and Bahrain took part in the session.

Earlier, Pradhan had written to the Puri King urging him to launch and lead a drive in the lines of Nidhi Samarpan Abhiyan for the development of Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri.

Responding to the letter, the Gajapati had assured that every possible step will be taken for the all-round development of the 12th-century shrine which is one of the 4 religious abodes for Hindus in India.
