Bhubaneswar: Tightening noose around the Odisha government in Bagala Dharmashala land row, the State Congress unit on Monday alleged a massive scam in the land 'sale' and demanded a high-level inquiry.

Addressing a presser at the party headquarters in Bhubaneswar, Congress leader Satya Nayak asked on what basis or norms the land was acquired. He also alleged that in the name of Puri Srimandir's beautification, the entire transaction was carried out illegally by the State government.

"The entire land acquisition process is a big scam. A conspiracy was hatched and with the help of a few selected officers, the government took the steps," alleged Nayak.

Demanding a high-level inquiry into the alleged land grab, Nayak said that the State Law Minister should come forward, accept the blunder and apologize.

Speaking on the matter, on Saturday, former Puri MLA Maheswar Mohanty said, “I feel the government should look into it.”

Soon after BJP national spokesperson, Sambit Patra alleged that the land of Bagala Dharmashala is being sold illegally, Puri district administration had clarified that only 12% of total area related to Bagala Dharmashala premises has been utilized to rehabilitate sevayats/persons who have given their land that is within the 75 meters corridor of the Puri Jagannath Temple.

However, contrary to the district administration's claim, an RTI application reportedly revealed that those who have been allotted plots in the dharmashala land had earlier received huge compensation in lieu of their land donated for the Srimandir heritage corridor project.
