Puri: The district administration on Monday sealed the Punjabi Mutt located on the southern side of the Puri Jagannath temple following allegations of narcotics trade on its premises. The particular building was sealed by police in presence of a magistrate.

As the particular structure was coming within 75 meters of the boundary wall of Srimandir that have been earmarked for the security corridor, discussions were underway whether to demolish or preserve it.

However, the inmates staying at Punjabi Mutt refuted allegations of narcotics trade.

“Nobody is involved in sale of any narcotics substance. Someone from outside might be involved, but we are not aware of it. As all the structures within 75 meters are being demolished, the building has been sealed,” said an inmate.

“The government should relocate us or else where would I go with a six-month-old child,” questioned another inmate.

Puri Collector, Balwant Singh said that complaints have been received regarding illegal drugs trade in Punjabi Mutt.

“Any kind of narcotics trade will not be allowed to flourish. Police have got some substances and further investigation is underway,” said Singh.
