Sundergarh: The administration of Sundargarh, which is one of the worst affected district in the second wave of the Covid pandemic has decided to engage doctors practicing at private hospitals for the treatment of virus-affected patients.

Collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan has instructed private clinics to send a list of doctors for the purpose. These medicos will work under the CDMO, the collector has stated through a notification.

“In exercise of the powers conferred under section 34 of the Disaster Management Act-2005 read with Rule 8(1) of the Odisha Disaster Management Rules, 2010 and the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, I, Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate, Sundargarh ordered that the service of the Doctors working in all Private hospitals are hereby requisitioned,” a notification issued by the district collector read.

Their service will remain under the disposal of the Chief District Medical Officer, it added.

The decision was taken in view the inadequate presence of the doctors at the hospitals, the notification mentioned.

Due to rise in Covid-19 positive cases in the district, almost all the Government Hospitals and 50% bed capacity of all other Private Hospitals in the district have been taken as COVID-19 treatment cells as per Govt. guidelines, it added.

Anyone who violates the order will be prosecuted under as per the provisions of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, besides legal action under Section 188 of the IPC, the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, the notification stated further.

The Odisha government had invoked the disaster management act which helps administration in better utilisation of resources and manpower in government and private sectors. Under the act, the services of doctors at private hospitals can be utilised for public interest.
