Private coaching centre in Bhubaneswar gutted in major fire mishap

Bhubaneswar: Property worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in a major fire mishap at a private coaching centre in Acharya Vihar area of the city here today.

An entire floor of the building complex housing the Disha Institute that imparts coaching to students preparing for competitive examinations has been razed by the fire.

All the belongings including furniture, documents, machinery, books, office documents and other equipment inside the centre have been charred, informed sources.

Fire officer SK Behera said he was informed about the fire at around 7.30 am in the morning. “We vacated the entire building and had to break open the windows since it was not possible to enter through the door. The flames were brought under control with the help of two fire tenders,” he said.

A staff of the coaching institute, who was the one to inform the police said he saw smoke billowing out of the window.

"It is being said that the fire broke out after an 11KV live wire from the transformer near the complex snapped and fell on the electric wire of the building," the staff informed.
