"We received a text message from the school saying that the buses won't ply due to some strike and that we should be making our own arrangements. It is difficult for working parents like me and the rains have definitely added to the woes," said Pitambar Sethi, a parent.

Office goers too had a tough time reaching to their destinations as private buses remained off roads.

"I got an auto rickshaw after almost 30 minutes and the one I got charged me almost double the usual amount. But I had no options, "said Preeti Sahoo, a company executive.

The transportation of goods and other essential commodities is also likely to get disrupted due to the strike, said sources.
