Princess Kalyani Crowned Gajapati Of Paralakhemundi Royal Family

Gajapati: After the demise of Paralakhemundi Maharaj Gopinath Gajapati, his only daughter, Kalyani was on Friday coronated as the head of the royal family. With the coronation (Rajyabishek), Kalyani has officially become the first woman Gajapati in the history of the dynasty.

Her father, Gopinath Gajapati passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar early morning yesterday after nearly three years of struggling with health-related issues.

Later in the day, mortal remains of the king was taken in a procession in Paralakhemundi and accorded national honour before being consigned to flames.

As per tradition Kalyani performed the last rites of her father after her formal ascension at the Darbar Hall of the palace with Vedic rituals.

Kalyani followed in the footsteps of her father & joined BJD in February 2019. She unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Assembly elections from Paralakhemundi constituency.
