Ramakanta Biswas

Cuttack: Despite rapid advancements in medical science, superstitions continue to prevail and one such glaring example came to light at Patapur village under Banki Police limits in Cuttack today.

One Bharat Bhoi was reportedly bitten by a poisonous snake when he was working in his farmland. However, instead of going to hospital he preferred to seek the help of a priest and went to Singhanath temple, a Shiva shrine in the village.

After visiting the temple, several rituals were performed on him by the temple priest and as many as 108 pitchers of water were poured on Bhoi. However, the rituals could not alleviate the pain and Bhoi had to be rushed to a nearby hospital.

"Everybody in the village prefers to go the temple in case of snakebite. Therefore, I also went there. As I was not cured, I subsequently went to hospital," Bhoi said.
