New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other leaders on Monday greeted people of Odisha on the occasion of Odia New Year and Maha Vishuba Pana Sankranti.

Taking to Twitter, the Prime Minister wrote in both Odia and English languages. "Happy #OdiaNewYear and Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti. May the coming year bring happiness and good health in everyone's lives," he wrote.

President Kovind also took to Twitter and greeted Odia people on Maha Vishuba Pana Sankranti.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah too extended his wishes to the people of Odisha on the occasion.

Similarly, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wished on Maha Vishuba Pana Sankranti and prayed that people of the State get strength to fight coronavirus.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and BJP National Vice President Baijayant Jay Panda took to Twitter to wish on the auspicious occasion.

Maha Vishuba Pana Sankranti is the traditional new year day festival of Buddhists and Hindus in the state of Odisha. The festival is celebrated by visiting Shiva, Shakti, or Hanuman temples and taking a holy dip in the river.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, most religious places are closed in India. People are celebrating these festivals while staying at home and maintaining social distancing.
