Malkangiri: In another unfortunate incident exposing how basic amenities are still farfetched for many in remote areas of the State, a pregnant woman in Pabaliguda village of Chitrakonda block in Malkangiri had to be carried on a motorcycle to the hospital due to lack of motorable road and bridge to her village.

“It is impossible for vehicles to reach as the bridge connecting the village is damaged. Therefore, we borrowed a stretcher from a nearby village and shifted the patient. Later on she was taken on a motorcycle to the hospital,” said a healthcare supervisor of Janbai sector, Shankar Khara.

According to sources, the woman was previously examined and allotted a date for delivery by the hospital authorities. After the woman failed to reach the hospital, a medical team arrived at the village and took the lady to the hospital.

“Condition of the mother and the newborn is stable while the medical staff is keeping a close eye to ensure their wellbeing,” added Shankar.
