Bhubaneswar: As a mark of protest against the recent hike in power tariff, various electricity consumers forums have urged consumers to observe a 15-minute of voluntary blackout tomorrow from 6 PM to 6:15 PM.

The Youth wing of Odisha Congress on Tuesday staged protest in front of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) and demanded immediate withdrawal of the revised power tariff.

They also alleged that the Odisha government has increased the tariff to favour a company and also urged the power consumers in the State to switch off all electrical appliances for 15 minutes- from 6 PM to 6:15 PM on October 22.

Both the BJP and the Congress had also earlier mounted an attack on the State government for increasing the power tariff amid the COVID-19 pandemic and threatened to launch a massive protests across Odisha.

Recently, the OERC approved a proposal to hike power tariff by 20 paise per unit of electricity consumed in the State from October 1, 2020.
