Bhubaneswar: No respite seems to be in store for the consumers as potato prices are following the trajectory of onion and have been rising in several parts of Odisha.

Potato was being sold at Rs 35 per kg in Bhubaneswar while volatility in its retail prices was observed in different parts of the State today. Consumers are now paying Rs 30 per kg of potato in Cuttack, between Rs 28 and Rs 32 in Puri and Rs 25 to Rs 30 in several retail markets in Berhampur.

“Both onions and potatoes are essential vegetables for any household. We had stopped procuring onions after the prices touched Rs 120-per-kilo mark last year,” said Kishore, a resident of Cuttack.

Kishore informed that State is dependent on neighbouring West Bengal for meeting its own potato requirements. However, as the potato production in West Bengal has seen a drop, its impact is now being felt in Odisha.
