Puri: Unidentified miscreants hurled bombs at the house of BJP's Pipili Assembly candidate Ashrit Patnaik at Kamakantia under Balanga police limits in Puri district late on Friday night. While the main gate of the house was damaged in the incident, Ashrit and his family escaped unhurt in the incident.

According to sources, some bike-borne miscreants lobbed three bombs at Ashrit's house and fled the spot. It is suspected that the incident might be orchestrated by his rival political parties in the region.

Ashrit unsuccessfully contested the Pipili Assembly constituency in the 2019 polls. BJD candidate Pradeep Maharathy won the seat by a margin of 15,787 votes.

It is alleged that after Maharathy won the election by a small margin, the BJD workers are now identifying and targetting those who didn't vote for the ruling party.

Meanwhile, three police personnel have been deployed at the house of the BJP candidate for security purpose. However, till the last report came in, police had not begun an investigation into the incident.
