Balasore: A portion of an under-construction overbridge near Sobharampur in Balasore district collapsed on railway tracks today. Though there is no report of casualties or injuries, train services have been adversely affected.

As per reports, the overhead electric line was damaged in the mishap disrupting train services in the Balasore route. All the trains running on the route have been suspended for some time.
The restoration work has started on a war footing. Cranes have also been pressed into action to clear the route, said an official.

"The FOB girder launching work was underway at the site when one of the six beams fell on the railway tracks. While the restoration work has already begun, the exact reason behind the mishap will be ascertained only after an investigation," said Divisional Traffic Inspector, AK Khuntia.

"No train has been cancelled but some trains may get delayed. After the girders are cleared, the restoration of electric lines will be carried out. If it takes time, we will run trains with diesel engine on the route," he added.
