Koraput: Days after the transfer of doctors and paramedical employees from the SLN Medical College and Hospital in Koraput to the district headquarters hospital in Jeypore, a political slugfest has ensued between the ruling-BJD and the Congress.

While Congress MLA from Koraput, Krushna Chandra Sagaria has demanded withdrawal of transfer of doctors sent to the headquarters hospital, senior BJD leader Rabi Nanda has urged not to politicise such issues affecting public interest.

Sagaria, who had sat on dharna on August 4 protesting the transfer of doctors to the headquarters hospital, said: "All our demands have been heard and we have been assured that the transfer of the doctors will be withdrawn soon. We have given a deadline till August 10."

BJD leader Rabi Nanda slammed the demands of Sagaria and said that people of Jeypore will never tolerate politics over such matters.

"Matters related to public interests should not be politicised. Neither the BJD nor Jeypore will accept such anti-people acts," Nanda said.

Moreover, taking a dig at Sagaria, his party colleague and senior Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati said that under no circumstances the doctors will be sent back from Jeypore as their appointment was made on the basis of a government notification.

"People who are politicising the matter, must refrain from doing so," rued Bahinipati.

Meanwhile, Koraput district Collector K Sudarshan Chakraborty said that the administration will ensure both the DHH and the medical college function properly.
