Bhubaneswar: Officials of the Vigilance Department today caught a sub-inspector of Dhauli Police Station in Bhubaneswar, Pradeep Mahala while he was taking bribe from a person in connection with a case.

As per reports, Mahala had demanded Rs 30,000 from one Jyoti Ranjan Pani to settle a land-dispute case at the Dhauli Police Station. However, he was caught red-handed by the sleuths today. The Vigilance team is also interrogating Mahala based on allegations against him amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to sources, Pradeep had joined the police services as a Sub-Inspector in the year 2013. However, allegations of corruption were raised against him time and again, department sources said.
The Vigilance officials have also initiated an investigation to find out if there is any involvement of other officials of the police station in such incidents of bribery.

S Radhakrishnan, SP, Vigilance Cell, said "The Vigilance officials caught the SI while he was taking a bribe of Rs 30,000 from Jyoti Ranjan Pani to settle a land dispute case. Primary investigations revealed that the SI had taken the bribe. Further investigation is on."

Earlier on September 2018, Vigilance sleuths had arrested the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Jatni Police Station after he was caught red-handed receiving bribe of Rs 50,000.
