Police seize 20 gm brown sugar from a woman in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a joint operation by Laxmisagar police and Quick Action Team(QAT), brown sugar weighing 19.40 gm was seized from a woman of Haladipadia slum in Bhubaneswar yesterday afternoon. The prime accused Maina Routray (37) has been taken into police custody.

Apart from the contraband item, police also seized Rs 36,640 cash from Routray's possession and an investigation has been launched into the case.

A few days back, the Excise officials had arrested a B.Tech student of a private university for selling brown sugar near Big Bazar in Patia area of Bhubaneswar.

Prior to that, officials of the Excise Department had seized brown sugar worth Rs 38 lakh from Chintamaniswar and Haldipadia area in Bhubaneswar and arrested three persons including two women in connection with the case.
