Cuttack: Intensifying their agitation, lawyers of the Orissa High Court today locked up main gate of the court despite the Supreme Court's order to withdraw strike.

While a meeting of the general body of the Bar Association was scheduled at 2:30 pm to decide on future course of action, the lawyers did not allow the judges to enter the premises of the High Court alleging that the apex court directive is one-sided.

The apex court on Thursday had asked the lawyers to call off the strike.

Lawyers have been observing cease-work strike since August 30 demanding arrest of the accused involved in the attack on an advocate.

Earlier, on August 28, lawyer Debi Prasanna Pattnaik was allegedly beaten up by police personnel in public view at Shastri Nagar in Nuabazar area. Following the incident, a police vehicle parked near Revenue Divisional Commissioner’s (RDC) office was torched during a lawyers’ protest against the incident.

Even though the Crime Branch of Odisha Police had arrested two persons including Home Guard, the lawyers are demanding arrest of other four accused involved in the attack.

Judicial work in all the courts in Cuttack including High Court has remained paralysed due to the cease-work strike being observed by lawyers.
