Bhubaneswar: A joint team of police officials and authorities of the Utkal University today evicted more than 60 non-students from Hostel No-7 of the varsity.

As per reports, several non-students had taken possession of boys' hostel by paying annual fee. Following complaints, the non-students were evicted by the varsity authorities in presence police and also seized a large number of liquor bottles.

"For the past six months, efforts were on to vacate the non-student from the hostel. Initially, 30 students were allotted the hostel out of which 25 students were later accommodated to other hostel. However, five students remained adamant and stayed back at the hostel and after a few days we noticed some non-students entering the hostel. We tried to hold discussion with the five students, but failed. Therefore, we sought help from police to vacate the hostel," said Dayanidhi Nayak, registrar of the varsity.

"The Vani vihar authorities had written a letter to us seeking police assistance to vacate Hostel No 7. They had stated that some non-students were staying there. Today, in presence of police force, the hostel was vacated," said Anup Sahoo, Bhubaneswar DCP.
