Bhubaneswar: BJD's Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Bharaitya Janata Party (BJP) over Mahanadi water dispute accusing the saffron party of neglecting the interests of the people of Odisha to settle political scores.

Speaking to media during the Mahanadi Suraksha Abhiyan in Khurda, the MP said that PM Narendra Modi's visit and a public meeting in Cuttack is an act of rubbing more salt to the injury of crores of Odias.

"The Prime Minster, who is directly and indirectly responsible for the disruption in water flow of Mahanadi, is going to hold a public meeting on Mahanadi riverbed. It's a clear case of adding insult to injury of Odias," said Acharya.

People of Odisha will never tolerate it and give a befitting reply to the BJP at the right time, added Acharya.

Earlier on May 16, while addressing a public meeting after launching the Mahanadi Suraksha Abhiyan at Sukhasoda in Jharsuguda, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had lashed out at the BJP alleging that several leaders of the saffron party in the State are supporting Chhattisgarh’s projects on Mahanadi River and are just shedding crocodile tears to fool and mislead people.

Meanwhile, BJP's comments on the matter are yet to be obtained.
