Bhubaneswar: The Khurda-Bolangir railway project might see some brisk progress as Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the status of the project at the first ‘Pragati of 2020’ meeting held at New Delhi yesterday.

Expressing concerns over the inordinate delay in the completion of the project, Modi sought cooperation from Odisha government and directed Forest and Environment, Railways and other departments to expedite the project.

The 289-km Khurda-Bolangir railway project was started in 1995 with a targeted deadline of 2000.

“Khurda-Bolangir is a very ambitious & long-awaited railway project in Odisha. I am happy & grateful to the Prime Minister for taking up the matter in his 1st PRAGATI of 2020. With his intervention, I think the project will see the light of the day,” said Union Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan.

Pradhan further informed that the Prime Minister has sought necessary cooperation from Odisha government for early completion of the project.

Bijay Kumar Shah, a resident of Bolangir said, “At present, the project is moving at a snail’s pace and we hope that the authorities take necessary steps to see that the project is completed soon.”
