Puri: Amid the high-voltage campaigning ahead of the Pipili by-election, a woman BJP leader was allegedly attacked by a worker of ruling BJD today.

Rashmi Rekha Das, the secretary of BJP State Mahila Morcha wing along with booth committee president, SarojSethi was allegedly attacked by BJD worker during the campaigning today.

Soon after the incident, Sethi lodged a complaint in this regard at Pipili police station demanding immediate action.

“State Mahila Morcha secretary Rashmi Rekha Das was campaigning in Pipili and booth committee president Saroj Sethi also accompanied her. Lingaraj, a worker of BJD, pushed her and abused her with filthy language. Saroj Sethi was also threatened with murder. We lodged a complaint and police assured us to arrest the accused,” said BJP leader Pravati Parida.

This is the second instance of pre-poll violence in the past 48 hours. Yesterday, a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) worker allegedly attacked a BJP campaigner at Raigiripur.

Angry over the incident, BJP members led by its MLA candidate Ashrit Pattanayak staged a sit-in before the local police station demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

The reaction of BJD on today’s incident could not be obtained.
